Chris K. H. Teo was formerly a Professor of Botany at Universiti Sains Malaysia. He retired from this position after teaching and researching at Universiti Sains Malaysia for twenty-six years. His wife Ch’ng Beng Im, was formerly a science school teacher. They founded CA Care in 1995 to help cancer patients (see: www.CancerCare.com.my). Chris has written numerous books on cancer (see www.BookOnCancer.com).
In 2006, Chris launched this e-Journal of Traditional & Complementary Medicine. If traditional and complementary medicine is to survive in this world of science and technology, there is a dire and urgent need to document both the effectiveness of the healing practices and knowledge of traditional medicine, which actually is part and culture of our Oriental heritage.
There are two main reasons for the need of such an e-journal.
One, to make the field of journal publication level by providing opportunities to students, researchers, patients and practitioners of traditional medicine to write and publish their works or healing experiences without having to pay any fee. We in the developing countries do not have that "luxury" to pay to get our work published in journals of the Western world.
Two, by publishing evidences of the effectiveness of traditional treatments, we should be able to earn more trust and respect for what we are doing. Traditional healing methods will remain hocus pocus and suspect without properly documented evidence of efficacy.
